When you come to Caloundra for a holiday, you will find out that you have arrived in one of the best family holiday destinations in south east Queensland. Caloundra is only about one hours drive north of Brisbane and lies at the top of Moreton Bay where the Pumicestone passage between Bribie Island and the mainland, flows into the main shipping channel on the west coast of Moreton Bay. This confluence of waterways creates a marine playground that is unequalled in the southern regions of Queensland and creates a fantastic surfing, swimming and fishing destination.

Caloundra is also slightly north of Cape Moreton at the northern extremity of Moreton Island and this allows the ocean swells to break on the outer beaches along the Caloundra coastline. This means that several of Caloundra’s beaches along this section of coast have excellent surf, while others across the bar at the entrance to Pumicestone passage have beautiful calm water beaches that are great for families with kids. There is no other holiday destination in Queensland with this variety for you to choose from. Caloundra is also close to many other attractions. The Greg Norman designed “Pelican Waters Golf Course” is attracting more and more visitors to play its challenging layout and the Caloundra hinterland is full of beautiful places to go for a day out or a picnic.

The Glass House Mountains are a spectacular local destination with beautiful rainforests for a bushwalk and the striking scenery created by the mountain them selves. They are only a short drive from Caloundra as is the magnificent Australia Zoo, run by Steve Irwin’s family. This is a wonderful place to take the kids for a day and if you don’t want to drive yourself, shuttle services will take you there and return you to your accommodation. Also located in the Caloundra hinterland are the Blackall Ranges and these are also quite spectacular. The towns of Montville and Maleny here are great places to explore as they are full of interesting attractions and activities.

If you bring your family to Caloundra for your holidays you can rest assured that everyone will have a great time.
