Over the last decade, Mooloolaba has become the most popular tourist destination on the Sunshine Coast. Since high rise apartment development has been allowed on the beachfront here, many large holiday resorts have been developed in the immediate vicinity of the beachfront. This has created an inventory of thousands of holiday apartments in a location that has developed a fantastic holiday atmosphere. Other holiday infrastructure has developed along with the resorts, and the shopping promenade along the front of the resorts is now filled with busy restaurants, cafes and fashion boutiques. The alfresco dining, the proximity to the surf beach, and the views have all combined to produce a holiday destination that most people love.

In the immediate vicinity is the spit and the mouth of the Mooloolah River. The river itself runs back into an extensive area where canal subdivisions have been developed and there are now several marinas. These all have access to the ocean and this in turn has provided an aquatic playground that is unequalled on the Sunshine Coast. Whale watching trips, fishing charters, sailing and jet skiing are now more and more popular. The local surfing beaches are famous and attract holiday makers from all over the country. The warm winter temperatures make a Sunshine Coast holiday particularly inviting for Melbourne and Sydney travelers looking for a holiday destination that is easy to get to, but still far enough north that they will be able to warm up and enjoy the sunshine.

Things to do in Mooloolaba, Mooloolaba is also a great family destination and there is lots for the kids to do. Local attractions include the Underwater world aquarium on the Mooloolaba spit where there are heaps of aquatic attractions that include shark pools, seal displays and hundreds of different species of fish and turtles. The late Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo is located in the Sunshine Coast hinterland at Beerwah. It is an easy drive or you can go on a shuttle bus transfer. The Australia Zoo people also run the Mooloolaba whale watching trips.
