Some of the great places you can explore around Rainbow Beach in your four wheel drive vehicle are the Coloured sands which lie to the south of the town. Double Island Point lies at the end of this beach and provides a natural barrier between Rainbow Beach and Teewah Beach. Teewah Beach stretches all the way to Noosa and is a natural highway from Noosa’s North Shore to Rainbow Beach and Fraser Island and is used by many four wheel drive enthusiasts and tour operators. All of these beaches and headlands are popular destinations for fishermen and campers. Inland from Rainbow Beach you can drive through the scenic Freshwater Track that eventually joins Teewah Beach south of Double Island Point. To the north of Rainbow Beach, you will come to Inskip Point and here you will find the vehicular ferry that can take you across to Fraser Island. This is the world’s largest sand island and a world heritage listed wilderness area that is a paradise for someone wanting to go four wheel driving and camping is spectacular surroundings.

Inland from Rainbow Beach is the town of Tin Can Bay which has a great marina and boat ramp. A pod of Indo Pacific Bottle Nose Dolphins have delighted visitors here for many years as they have a habit of coming to the boat ramp each morning for a free hand out of fresh fish. You can hand feed them yourself. The gold mining town of Gympie is a little further inland and there are lots of historical museums and old buildings you can visit.

Rainbow Beach has lots of accommodation. It is a popular backpacker destination and has several large hostels. There are also several large holiday resorts and apartment style resorts that provide excellent holiday accommodation. It is easy to get to Rainbow Beach either by self driving or by coming on the local greyhound coach service.
